INTENT: To provide and further the most competitive handicap racing on the Chesapeake Bay. As the number of entries will allow, the fleet will be divided into classes. The rules for sailing under the ORC scoring system may be found here:
https://orc.org/
The ORC rules in the above link are modified and reiterated by ORC of the Chesapeake as listed below:
1) A valid ORC Club or ORCi certificate is required. ORC Double Handed and Multihull certificates are not permitted (unless used for a Double Handed or Multihull event).
2) In the case of boats which have both ORC Standard and Non-Spinnaker certificates which participate in ORC Open events using both types of certificates in the same year, each type of certificate will be scored independently for the ORC of the Chesapeake Championship.
Example: A J/120 named "Rainbow" competes throughout the season with both their Standard and Non-Spinnaker certificates depending upon crew availability. The ORC of the Chesapeake Championship will score Rainbow (Standard) and Rainbow (Non-Spinnaker) separately as if it were two different boats.
3) For all races sailed entirely North of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, any crew member who has not reached their 14th birthday will not be counted toward a yacht's maximum crew weight.
